Oh hi! I’m back again with another instalment of WIBW, where I write short, spoiler-free reviews of the movies I’ve seen at the cinema lately, as well as sharing my expectations on what I’m due to see next! Let’s dig in, shall we?
Skyscraper pretty much matched my expectations tbh. It was big on the action (and green screen) and did have a little bit of heart behind it too. Sadly, it was all a bit too serious and lacked the fun that some of The Rock’s other recent blockbuster movies have had. It’s a decent popcorn movie, but the plot isn’t anything exciting and the villains are meh.
I have to admit, I quite enjoyed Hotel Artemis. I was only mildly interested in seeing it when it came out (it got a Cineworld Unlimited screening, so I figured I’d go along), but I was pleasantly surprised by how enjoyable I found it. The downsides were that there wasn’t enough Jeff Goldblum, and there were times when it felt like I wanted to know more about certain characters and less about others. You win some, you lose some.
Ant-Man & The Wasp
I enjoyed the first Ant-Man – it was fun, had some great action and was quite funny. Plus, Paul Rudd is an absolute fox. Ant-Man & The Wasp builds a bit upon the first Ant-Man by being slightly funnier and having a slightly better plot (i.e. the villain was more interesting this time around). The only thing that has significantly improved is the action which was fantastic in this movie. It really amps things up this time around.
Oh, and I know this goes without saying for a Marvel movie, but stick around for the credits. The credit scene is a shocker, and that’s all I’ll say about that…
So what’s coming up next, eh?
Well, I think I’ll go see this one just because I think it’s going to be silly. I’m not expecting much, but it could be fun. I’m not exactly sure why Rainn Wilson is in it, but I love him in The US Office so I’m hoping he’s basically just playing Dwight. Who doesn’t want to see a movie with Dwight and the Stath in?
I *really* hope this movie comes to our local Cineworld because I want to see it so bad! It had an Unlimited screening recently but the aircon was broken in the screen so people were told basically not to come so we decided it was safer to not bother going to melt in a room filled with people. Anyway, I think this could be a really interesting thriller/horror type film so count me in.
