It’s time to share some more mini spoiler-free reviews with you! HUZZAH! We haven’t been to the cinema as much as we’d hoped recently but I’m sure that will soon change with lots of good movies on the way.
You Were Never Really Here
The plot made this movie sound like it was 100% up my street but oh my god I couldn’t have been more wrong.
I found the film to be incredibly artsy fartsy pretentious and what could have been a really great story was ruined by stylistic choices that just didn’t work for me.
Joaquin Phoenix’s acting is great, as are a couple of other performances but it’s all saturated by poor direction.
Isle of Dogs
The only other Wes Anderson film I’ve seen is Fantastic Mr Fox which I really liked, so I was looking forward to another animated feature!
I absolutely adored the stop-motion animation in Isle of Dogs (I’ve always been a big fan of this medium), and there were a couple of the characters I really enjoyed spending time with.
Where the film falls down a bit is with the plot, which starts out as quite endearing as a little boy searches for his lost dog, but by the third act of the film a lot of strands are wrapped up and I, therefore, started to lose interest towards the end.
A Quiet Place
I’ve really been looking forward to seeing this movie, as when I saw the first trailer I thought the concept was fascinating. You have to stay quiet or the monsters will hunt you pretty much sums it up!
There are some really tense moments in A Quiet Place, and the acting across the board is incredible. The sound that is used in the film is well done as well.
The only criticism I would have is that I think the trailer shows too much of the monsters and that it would have been even tenser and much scarier if you didn’t see what they looked like so early on.
What films will I be seeing next?
I wasn’t too fussed about seeing Blockers based on the trailer, but I’ve since heard it has some decent reviews and as it’s produced by Seth Rogen I am willing to give it a chance!
This is the great thing about having a Cineworld Unlimited card, you can go see films that you’re not overly bothered about and you haven’t wasted money.
I’m really excited for this film and have high expectations! The story looks really sweet and the trailer has 100% sold it to me. It also has Katherine Langford in it who was amazing in 13 Reasons Why.
