If you’ve been reading the blog for a while, you may remember my review of The Body Shop’s Argan Oil shower gel and body scrub from back in October.
I’m a big advocate of The Body Shop’s products, so when I got the body butter for Christmas I was excited to share my initial thoughts of the product with you lot.
I have to admit that I have tried body butters from TBS in the past and been a little disappointed. They don’t generally respond well to eczema and also make your skin sweat like crazy. Well, at least that’s what happens to me. It’s not glamorous.
I had optimism for the argan oil product though, as the other products in the range have been great. However, after a few uses, I have noticed a few issues that I have personally had.
First of all, although my eczema doesn’t flare up using this butter, it does cause the skin to itch a little bit – particularly on the palm side of my arm. This is after a few hours of wearing it, and although it doesn’t cause me any concern, it is a bit annoying.
Secondly, it does seem to make it feel like I’m sweating more. As the weather is quite cold at the moment, I am naturally wearing a few layers. So with this butter on my skin, it ends up feeling pretty greasy by the end of the day. That’s because the butter is pretty rich and greasy in itself – I imagine it works really well for some skin types, but it just doesn’t work for mine!
The cream is really thick, and you have to properly scoop it out of the pot. It spreads OK once on the skin, so don’t be tricked into using loads at once because your skin will feel horrid!
If other body butters work for you and you are intrigued by the argan oil version, don’t let this review put you off. However, if you do have sensitive skin that doesn’t react well to rich moisturisers, I’d definitely give this a miss.
Have you tried this product, or any of the other The Body Shop body butters? Let me know how you get on with them!
