2014 was yet another year of change – a new place to live, a new job. But in many respects, some things haven’t changed. I don’t feel *settled* just yet, and plans for the future are a little on the slim side. I’ve got ideas, but I need goals. 2015 looks to be a difficult year already, but I’m hoping for the best.
Anyway, back to 2014. It had a few firsts (first blogger event, first time travelling abroad alone etc etc), it had a few highs (the growth of this blog, Comics Unmasked Exhibition, plus many more), and it had a few lows (the passing of both my family dog Zoe and childhood hero Robin Williams).
It’s strange that this time at the end of 2013 I was talking about having got a new job – one which I enjoyed for 18 months before being approached about something new and incredibly exciting towards the end of 2014, that I just couldn’t turn down. I know my blog has a big part to play in the success I’ve had. It’s exciting, and I’m still settling in to the role and all the responsibilities it involves.
So all in all 2014 was a pretty mish mash year. Before we take a look at my hopes for 2015, at the end of 2013 I put together a little post all about the year and my hopes for 2014 – I thought that now it would be good to reflect on whether the year lived up to my hopes.
That we find a nice house in a quiet area to live. Yup! We moved into our house in Southbourne in February. Admittedly, it’s not perfect for us as we’re a bit isolated with very little to do in the area, but it is very convenient for my job.
Get in better shape. Points for trying? I joined Slimming World briefly before being struck down with Labyrinthitis, but I would definitely like to get back on the horse and try again! I also dabbled with some Health updates here on the blog, inspired by the #healthyselves community on Twitter, but it didn’t last long. I don’t think I’ll bring those updates back, but I am considering using my Instagram account to chronicle my health and fitness once I get into it.
Teach myself more about photography. So, I’ve had my DSLR for a little over a year now, and I’m pleased to say that I have strayed from the easy Auto functions! This is thanks to a great Blogger’s Event I went to in Brighton ran by Curry’s PC World showing how to use a DSLR properly! It was also my first blogger’s event ever which was great!
Develop this little blog. I think this little blog has definitely developed this year. I’m getting more interaction through lovely comments, and also honing the content a bit more than I was. There’s always improvements to be made though!
Stop being hard on myself. I am getting better at this I think – I’m trying to be a more pragmatic person. It’s difficult to gauge this because there’s been ups and downs this year, but I have definitely dabbled in a few new things which I wanted to try – the first blogger event, bettering myself with a new job role and I also went up in a hot air balloon!
So now onto my hopes and dreams for 2015 (ooh, it rhymes).
Get better at planning. I need to start looking at the future and having a firmer plan of how I want to move forward. Not just career wise, but where I see myself and the steps to get there! I am at my most vulnerable when having to make important decisions, so I need to work on this.
Look after myself better. Instead of being focused on the number on the scales, I want to generally look after myself better and not rely so much on unhealthy food as a comfort or convenience. I got an amazing food processor/blender from work, so I want to start using this more and incorporating more fresh ingredients into my diet again. Essentially, I want to get back on the Slimming World bandwagon and stay there!
Watch more movies and play more games. I get so glued to this laptop sometimes, when I’m really doing little more than just scrolling and stalking on Twitter and Facebook. I need to find more time for movies, board games and other activities that me and Liam can enjoy together.
Further developing this here blog. Like I said before, there’s always improvements to be made. I love that blogging is a constant learning curve. I want to continue working on the content here, but I also have some ideas for setting up a new site project with some other bloggers. Want to hear more? Get in touch!
And that’s it! How was 2014 for you, and what are your hopes for 2015?
