My skin is a nightmare in colder months. And warm months in fact. I can’t really win. The lovely Sue Adlam, a consultant from Neal’s Yard Remedies recommended I gave the Frankincense and Mandarin lotion a go, as I was looking for a quick dry body moisturiser I could slap on before work.
Admittedly, NYR are not the cheapest of skincare, but I’ve had great success with my hydrating cream, so during the Black Friday sales I bought this lotion to give it a try.
This lotion is labelled as being for all skin types and contains frankincense, mandarin, jojoba as well as almond and pumpkin seed oils. It comes in a 200ml bottle with pump release which pumps out generous amounts quickly, so don’t be too enthusiastic with it if you do decide to give this a try! With a simple twist of the pump top, you can ‘lock’ it closed when not in use. Handy if you’re packing it in a bag or suitcase.
I have to admit that from first use my initial reaction to using this product was the slightly odd smell – there’s nothing wrong with it, it’s just quite fragrant and I’m not sure the smell is quite my cup of tea. I don’t let this put me off using a decent product though, as I can always overlay with some perfume or body mist!
The lotion is a good consistency without being greasy, and looks much filthier in this photo than I intended.
It takes a bit of massaging in to properly smooth into the skin, but I think this is a good thing as it means you’re massaging the skin a bit as you go. It definitely sinks in quickly after this and does leave it feeling a bit softer.
I found that on more sensitive areas of my skin (i.e. where the annoying eczema lives), that the lotion didn’t really do much for it. Whilst my eczema doesn’t flare up in fury, it doesn’t calm or soothe it either. Despite this, I’ll still continue to use this on the eczema free areas of the skin to keep them soft.
