Ahhh! I’m excited about this one. After a few days of setting things up and making sure it’s just right, I am pleased to announce that I have created a new blogging community where bloggers can chat together, share ideas, ask questions and no longer be confined to 140 characters on Twitter!
Where can you find this blogging community? It’s on a platform called Slack which is dead easy to use – and you can even get an app on your phone for it so you can stay in touch with fellow bloggers on the go!
In this post, I thought I’d explain a bit about how Slack works, and how Blog Chat works to hopefully get some of you to sign up!
What is Slack?
Slack is usually used for “team collaboration” in a working environment, allowing you to discuss projects, work tasks etc. But Liam recently shared with me that he is part of a Slack team of podcasters that chat about all sorts of topics. It got me thinking that it would work really well for bloggers too!
It’s a platform that you can use on your desktop or phone (it’s cloud-based, so you can access it from any device basically!), and it’s made up of “channels” which are like topics, or threads. You can subscribe to channels to join in the chat, and unsubscribe from them whenever you like.
How does Blog Chat work?
I have created a “team” called Blog Chat on Slack with a number of different channels for a variety of topics, as well as some channels that allow you to promote your blog posts or promote posts from your favourite bloggers. There are also useful channels for asking questions, and for general non-blogging related chit chat!
As the moderator, I am looking forward to getting even more ideas of channels to create so that bloggers can talk about all of the things they enjoy discussing the most!
How to sign up
I would be so happy to have you on board, signed up and joining in!
The good news is, signing up is dead easy. Just follow this > INVITE LINK <, sign up for Slack if you haven’t already (it doesn’t take long to do at all) and you’ll be part of the ‘team’! You’ll then be presented with the Blog Chat homepage with all the channels listed down the side for you to join.
Then all you need to do is quickly read #therules channel for the simple ground rules (this is to make sure the community remains safe and unspammy!), then head to the #introductions channel to introduce yourself!
It’s as simple as that – and then you’re away! Start chatting in the channels and get to know fellow bloggers. How great is that?!
Hope to see you there – and if you have any questions at all, email me firstname.lastname@example.org or tweet me @moreaboutcat.
