Five Toxic Feelings That Bloggers Need To Destroy

C’mon lads, let’s admit that we’ve all had some pretty toxic feelings around blogging.

Whether that’s feeling like we aren’t good enough or that the community is circle-jerking left, right and centre, these feelings aren’t at all constructive and we need to shut that shit down.

Here’s legit toxic feelings around blogging that I’ve had in the past. Shame me if you will, but I bet you’ve had them too…

“Why can’t I look as good as that blogger?”

YEP. This ol’ chestnut. That niggling insecurity when my insta timeline or blog feed is filled with beautiful pictures of beautiful bloggers and I’m sat there in a baggy jumper and jeans clasping on to my thighs, with the skin of a teenager because I have an unhealthy addiction to well, unhealthy foods.

What’s really toxic is that feeling that you get when a blogger is super duper popular and you feel like you’ll never get to that level cos lol you ain’t skinny with a pretty face. UH NUH.

So how do I destroy this toxicity? I remind myself that my looks have nowt to do with my ability to blog, and that you don’t have to look like a supermodel to be interesting.

“Why does that blogger have so many followers when their content isn’t as good as mine?”

I’m not proud of this one, but I’m fairly certain I’m not the only blogger to have ever felt this.

When you read a blog and to you, it’s just not good but then you see they have about 893969 followers and lots of comments. It kinda sucks, but you’re on your own journey and all that actually matters is that you’re proud of your own content.

Plus, content quality is subjective and someone might think your blog posts suck and guess what – that’s OK.

“I feel excluded from the blogging community, so I’m going to bitch and moan about it!”

Yeah, we’ve all felt “excluded” from the community and really, most if not all of the time it’s totally in our heads.

Instead of bitching and moaning about it, we should be trying to get ourselves included again. I tend to feel “out of the loop” from my own doing, because I haven’t put the effort in to be a part of the community.

“I wish I was pushing towards 10K insta followers to get the swipe up option, I can’t even get to 1K!”

I’ll be honest, the ask for insta followers doesn’t bother me at all, it just makes me feel a bit small fry considering I have been chasing 1K FOREVER and am still on around 820 followers.

But y’know what? I just enjoy using insta for the hell of it. As much as I love Stories in particular, I would probably hardly ever use the swipe up function because I don’t really post about fashion which is what I mostly see it being used for.

Sure, it would be nice to plug my blog posts on it with the nifty feature of linking people straight through to it, but this toxic feeling is pretty easy to squash most of the time.

“Why aren’t I being sent free shit all the time?”

If you’ve never felt even a twinge of sadness when another blogger gets AMAZING blogger mail that you haven’t got then you’s a damn liar. Or you’re just not as materialistic as I am.

I can’t help but feel a bit (sometimes a lot) jealous when a blogger gets a package from a brand that I’d love to work with. So really it’s not actually about getting free shit all the time, it’s about getting sent the free shit you want.

This feeling is harder to ignore sometimes, but it’s a case of reminding yourself that free shit isn’t the reason why you started blogging in the first place. Unless it is, in which case lol tough luck.
